John Karter

John Karter brings over 20 years of experience in the structured settlement industry. Prior to joining Brant Hickey & Associates in 2014, he brokered with other firms in the industry.  John started his career at CNA Insurance Company as a structured settlement broker and, later, helped launch and market CNA’s nationwide structured settlement program. Following his tenure with CNA, John joined Settlement Planning Associates, LLC, and Superior Settlements (a division Westfield Insurance Company) as a certified structured settlement consultant (CSSC). His expertise includes settlement of cases involving medical malpractice, truck and auto liability, worker’s compensation, products liability, employment litigation, and business disputes.  He is appointed to provide structured settlements to the Torts Branch of United States Department of Justice, by the state of Minnesota to help provide structured settlements to the victims and families of the 65 Bridge collapse disaster in 2007, and AIG as an approved structured settlement broker.  

 

John graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology.  He is a licensed life and health insurance broker, an active member of the National Structured Settlement Trade Association (NSSTA). John has presented and spoke on behalf of NSSTA and its members  on several occasions though out his career.  He earned the Certified Structured Settlement Consultant (CSSC) designation from the University of Notre Dame in 2003, and the Certified Medicare Secondary Payer Professional (CMSP) designation in 2012. He routinely participates in settlement conferences, mediations, pre-trial conferences, and private settlement meetings with injured individuals, their families, attorneys, judges, and mediators across the country.  He is available for presentations and on-site negotiations to develop settlement strategies for all parties at no cost.

 

John resides in Chicago, IL, with his wife Jennifer and their three spirited children: Julian, Ella, and Avery.  His passion is helping people live their lives to the fullest, and is a firm believer in paying it forward!
